I would like to be able to assign a contact to an area and all sub areas using the inherited areas due to the number of locations that we have.

Hi Jennifer,
Thank you for this feature request. I've discussed it with the team and everyone is in strong agreement that this would be a very useful feature especially for larger organisations.
Although I can't give specifics on a timeline I can confirm that we've added it to our development roadmap
