Saving an Insight report link with its filters

Have more questions? Submit a request

When you set up an Insight report with filters, a date range and a chart type, you can copy a link that reproduces that exact setup. Save the link as a browser bookmark and the report opens ready to read, with no need to reapply the filters. You can also send the link to a colleague.

Permissions

You need the "Access insights" permission, plus the permission for the individual report you want to view, for example "View Alarm Count by Area report". Anyone you send the link to needs the same permissions, and will only see data for the areas their user role gives them access to.

Finding the report link

The link is copied from the report toolbar, which sits above the chart on the right hand side of the Insight screen. The last icon in that row, shaped like a chain link, opens the Report URL box.

Copying a report link

  1. Open Insight and select the report you want from the list on the left.
  2. Click the filter icon in the toolbar to open the Filter Options panel, set the filters you want, then set the start and end dates. Click Run Report.
  3. Choose the chart type you want the link to open with, using the chart icons in the toolbar.
  4. Click the link icon at the right hand end of the toolbar. The Report URL box appears with the link already selected.
  5. Copy the link with Ctrl+C, or Cmd+C on a Mac, then click the X to close the box.

To save the link for yourself, paste it into a new browser bookmark. To share it, paste it into an email or a chat message.

Frequently asked questions

Does the date range move forward automatically?

No. The link stores the exact start and end date and time you had set when you copied it, so it always opens the same window. A link copied on 12 August 2026 covering the previous 60 days will still show 13 June to 12 August 2026 when you open it in November.

If you want a fresh view of recent data, open the saved link and then change the dates in the Filter Options panel. All your other filters stay as they are, so it is a single change rather than setting the report up again.

Can I make a link that always shows the last 30 days?

Not directly, but you can edit the dates in the link itself. Near the end of the link you will see two parameters that look like this:

&startDate=2026-06-13T14%3A10%3A02.000Z&endDate=2026-08-12T14%3A10%3A02.000Z

These are in UTC, which is what the Z on the end means, so during British Summer Time they will be an hour behind the times shown on screen. You can change the date part of each one and leave the rest as it is. Do not remove the %3A characters: they are how a colon is written in a web address.

If you edit the link by hand, open it once to check it produces the report you expect before you save it.

What exactly does the link save?

The report you selected, the grouping, every filter you set in the Filter Options panel, the Exclude Auto Handled setting, the number of results, the chart type, the start and end date and time, and the time zone the report was run in.

Can I send the link to a colleague?

Yes. They will need to sign in to SureView first if they are not already signed in. The link does not sign them in and does not give them access to anything they could not already see.

They may see different figures to you. Insight only returns data for the areas a user has access to, so if your colleague's user role covers fewer areas than yours, their version of the report will show less.

Why does the report show different figures to when I saved the link?

The date window is fixed, so the usual reason is that events within that window have been closed or recategorised since. A report that groups by outcome or category will change as operators close outstanding events. Reports that count alarms by area or by point are much less likely to move.

If the difference is large, check that you are signed in as the same user, since permissions affect which areas are counted.

Will the link still work if we rename an area or an event type?

Yes. Filters are saved using the underlying record rather than the name, so renaming is safe. If the item is deleted, that part of the filter will no longer match anything and the report will return fewer results, or none at all.

Does the link work if my colleague is in a different time zone?

Yes. The time zone is saved as part of the link, so everyone opening it sees the same window with the same times, regardless of where they are.

Can I get the underlying data rather than the chart?

Yes. Open the saved link, then use the download icon in the toolbar to export the report as a CSV file. The export uses the filters and date range currently applied, so the file matches what you are looking at.

How many links can I save?

As many as you like. They are ordinary browser bookmarks, so you can keep a folder of the reports you run regularly, each with its own set of filters.
