The following are the steps required to configured Vicon Valerus work with the Sureview.

Before you begin

Before you configure your Vicon Valerus system to work with Sureview make sure you have the following:

• An Ops Link installed on to the local network
• All required ports configured (see Components and Communication)
• Username and password of your Valerus Camera(s) / connected NVR(s)
• Camera Stream set to H.264 with a maximum resolution of 1280x720 and max 10 fps
  SureView Ops Ops only permits video encoded as H.264 to be streamed from cameras and video systems. See Video Requirements

Finding the RTSP URLs for SureView

The Vicon Valerus VMS allows you to pull an RTSP stream for any of the cameras. The stream will be provided directly by the Valerus recording server (NVR) in the same manner it is set and used within the VMS. To locate the RTSP stream for any given camera, follow the steps below:

1. Log into the Valerus VMS and access the configuration page with an authorized user. 
   
   
2. Under the resources section, select “Video Channels.” 
   
   
3. In the list of video channels, select the camera for which you want to find the RTSP URI. 
   
   
4. At the bottom of the Properties tab, you will find a button labelled “Show IDs;” click it.
   
5. A pop up opens and lists the available streams.
   Next to each stream, you will see the URI for its RTSP address using the GUID of the NVR this camera is connected to. You may use either stream, depending on your needs and available bandwidth.
   
   When hovering over the URI, a “copy” icon will appear on the right, allowing to copy the string into the clipboard.
   
   Saving to a text file is also possible using the button on the bottom left.
   

 

Please follow the instructions on the Camera Setup Support Page. Making sure to paste the the RTSP URL found in the instructions above into the RTSP URL section of the Device Setup box.

 

Remember - The Camera Stream used for SureView must be set to H.264 with a maximum resolution of 1280x720 and max 10 fps. See Video Requirements for more details

Configuring Email Alarms

Note: You must setup your SureView Email Alarm Points before configuring Valerus  to send email alarms. Please see the Email Alarm Setup support page for more details

In order to get email alerts sent when an event occurs in Valerus, you will need to make sure the Valerus VMS is set up for email and set rules that will send the appropriate email over.

Defining email server

To define an email server for the Valerus VMS to use to send email, go to Configuration – System – Networking and scroll to the email section.

Here you can configure Valerus VMS to send directly using the SureView Ops SMTP server or use your own prefered SMTP Server - See SMTP Alarms Support Page for more details

Recommended settings

Enable Email: On

Mail Server Address: eu-smtp.sureviewops.com (if your Ops account is held in the EU) us-smtp.sureviewops.com (if your Ops account is held in the US)

Mail server Port: 587

Secured server: On

Sender Email Address: Your preferredemail address

Server Requires Authentication: Off (if using SureView Server)

Creating a rule to send an email

To create rules that will send an email on a certain trigger, go to Configuration – Advanced – Rules.

Rules are confirmed by the event that will trigger them and the actions taken when it happens. You may define ON actions for when the event is triggered as well as OFF actions for when it ends (Off action use is relevant for events that have a duration, such as digital input, and not for momentary events, such as line cross).

1. Click on the “New” button.
   
   
2. Provide a name, remarks (optional) and schedule.
   
   
3. Click the “Specify Event” button to define the event.
   
   
4. Select the event type (Valerus or external). 
   
   
5. Select the specific event that will serve as the trigger for this rule. See Valerus VMS user manual for additional details.
   
   
6. Select the resource that you want to be the trigger of the event. Note, selecting multiple resources works as a logical AND (all will need to occur for the event to trigger); selecting “All” works as a logical OR (where any one can occur for the event to trigger). If you wish to have separate emails for separate events, choose only one source at a time.
   
   
7. Once done, click “Apply and Close.”
   
   
8. Click the “On Actions” button to open the action section.
   
   
9. Select “Send An Email” from the action dropdown list.
   
   
10. Click the “Add/Edit” button to configure the email. 
    
11. Enter your unique SureView Alarming Email Address (see Email Alarm Setup support page) - it will look something like a7yxqbje4g@eu.sureviewops.com or  a7yxqbje4g@us.sureviewops.com)
    
12. Provide a subject for the email. This will become the Alarm Text that the operator sees. For example "Motion Detected" or %Rule_Name%
    
    
13. In the body of the email, you may write your own text, use the specific system data by clicking the links below or combine both (example for both shown below). - This will be available to operators in the details of the alarm (but not shown by default)
    Note, the use of the system data variables allows flexibility in creating a message that will provide different data according to the trigger. See Valerus VMS user manual for additional details.
    
    
14. Click “Apply” to close the pop up.
    
    

15. You may define additional actions as well as Off actions if needed.

    To test, generate the event you have set up and verify the email alarm sent was received by SureView
